What the badges mean for chemical customers

Ratings are useful only when linked to operating practices. Evonik uses them as entry points into more specific documentation: Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas reporting under the GHG Protocol, supplier engagement for Scope 3 categories, water-stress prioritization by site, and product stewardship reviews that reference SDS updates and restricted-substance monitoring.

For procurement teams, the practical question is not whether a badge exists, but whether the supplier can explain the boundary, year, and method behind the statement. Our document packages separate corporate ESG indicators from product-level information such as product carbon footprint, mass-balance attribution, recycled content, or biodegradation testing under OECD 301, 302, or 310 where applicable.

Climate

Scope 1+2 progress is tracked against a 2019 baseline and reviewed through energy, steam, and site-efficiency projects.

Product stewardship

Hazard communication remains tied to SDS Section 2, transport classification, and exposure controls.

Circularity

Recycled or bio-attributed feedstock claims include chain-of-custody and mass-balance notes when used.
